A compact, self-contained microphone preamplifier inspired by several classic and proven designs from music and film recording, expanded with modern features and enhancements. Portable. Durable. Musical. Ojai.
Features
Based on a Triad A9J transformer, microphone input impedance is adjustable by selecting different primary taps enabling matching or mismatching to taste. Phantom power is rear-panel switchable. Microphone phase is relay switched and followed by a passive attenuator/active gain control. High impedance input is provided on the front panel and three selectable load capacitances can be applied: one is factory fixed and the other two can be changed by accessing a secret door on the bottom of the unit. Continuously variable gain trim of zero to -10dB is available prior to amplification to prevent (or enhance) overload.
A selected 5751 dual triode provides the first stages of gain. Output is an E88CC/6922 arranged similar to a White cathode follower for a low impedance output. The output of the Ojai is selectable between direct impedance balanced (Fire) and differential solid state output (Ice). A VU meter indicates relative levels and its backlight both lights the meter and shows power supply health.
Premium components throughout including an authentic Simpson VU meter, Neutrik connectors including gold XLRs, Wima and Sprague Atom capacitors, and top quality gold plated Grayhill switches.
The fully solid state power supply is very unique, very low temperature and most importantly very clean. Six carefully filtered DC voltages are created from 120V-240V AC input.
